Glogg: The Story Behind The Tradition

If you're of Swedish or Danish heritage, chances are great you already
know about the enchanting traditional beverage known as glogg.

For centuries, glogg has been enjoyed around the Christmas holiday
season as a "winter warmer" to take the chill out of long, cold nights.
Pronounced "glug" or "gloog" (your choice), glogg is a beverage that is
meant to be made at home. And that's where some of the fun comes in!

Today, glogg is still served during the traditional Christmas holiday
season in Scandinavian countries, the rest of Europe, and in the United
States. It is particularly common in cities like Chicago, New York, and
Minneapolis, where Swedish heritage communities thrive.

But now, glogg is evolving from just a holiday beverage to a year
around treat. Although it is typically served warm, glogg can also be
served as a summer cooler over crushed ice. Its uses are only limited
by your imagination!

So What Exactly Is Glogg?

For all intents and purposes, glogg is a spiced wine. The name itself
comes from the German word "gluhwein", which translates to spiced wine.

The ingredients vary according to individual recipes, but one of the
key ingredients is a sweet or semi sweet style of wine, like port,
burgundy, or even certain red jug wines.

And then, there are the spices. Typical spices you'll find in a batch
of glogg might include cinnamon, cloves, and cardamom, giving the
beverage its distinct bouquet and flavor. Fruit is also a key
ingredient. Oranges, dates, and prunes are just a few fruit types which
help give glogg a pleasing, drinkable taste.

One of the best things about glogg is that you can make it yourself.
It's not terribly difficult, but you should work from a standard recipe
and follow the steps closely. Once you become comfortable making a
batch (and enjoying it afterwards), you'll understand why glogg is
beloved the world over.

Find other ZORGIUM pages using your favorite search engine:

Enter your search keyword(s) and the keyword "zorgium" into the search input field of http://bing.com, http://yahoo.com or http://google.com.

Heads up: There's an ongoing spamdexing of Google searchbot algorithms. Sites that are 'copies of copies' and cloaked sites which include Zorgium keywords presented to search engine crawlers yet garbage content presented to human visitors were hosted on thousands of IP addresses and domains registered immediately after the introduction of Zorgium in November of 2009. The Hostgator/'The Planet'/Softlayer datacenters in Texas seem to be the epicenter of this activity in conjunction with anonymously registered domains of various TLD's but primarily .info domains at Godaddy which, in our opinion, has some sort of connection to the domains of goldmint.in and goldmint.org. Google has begun to notice this and has begun to lower the ranking of these sites and put our original sites back on top of the search rankings. These actions, as far as we can tell, negatively impact the use of the keyword 'zorgium' as a search term and provided little benefit, if any, to the perpetrators.

ZORGIUM note to content providers: If you don't want your page to appear in Zorgium's search abstraction then put an exclusion for "Zorgium" in your web server's robots.txt file.
